THE ROLE: ASSISTANT EVENT DIRECTOR

The Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

The Impact:  We organize networking summits and retreats for professional women in different sectors.  Our thoughtful approach to corporate events connects and energizes executives and high potential leaders to succeed in their industry.  

The Job: Our Assistant Event Director will support Directors on all aspects of event planning, marketing, business development, community engagement and industry knowledge. You will work closely with our entire team, including Events, Programming, Marketing, Finance and Operations.  For larger events you may play a key lieutenant role on Summits as the “second” and for smaller events you may serve as the lead planner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Take great pride and ownership in your work
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience launching a new product or building a business
  • Relevant work experience in business development, event planning and/or project management
  • Excellent people skills
  • Coachable, fast and self-motivated learner; prior knowledge of our industries is necessary, however you must be willing and able to learn Excellent communication and people skills

Responsibilities:

Project Manager

  • Planning and executing Annual Summits, Retreats and Pop-Up events
  • Coordinating vendors, registration and speaker logistics
  • Budgeting
  • Post-event wrap-up and analytics

Business Development

  • Set sponsorship and ticket sale targets
  • Maintain and develop relationships with sponsors and partners
  • Create and maintain a marketing calendar
  • Assist Marketing Director with content for marketing materials
  • Analyze marketing campaigns and report to team on effectiveness

Research Community Engagement

  • Serve as the Community Manager for your industries
  • Host off-season “Pop-Up” events to get to know the audience outside of the summit
  • Develop relationships with attendees, sponsors, advisors and speakers
  • Assist Programming Director with industry research
  • Manage CRM, including maintaining and updating database of contacts and firms
  • Research new contacts, firms, vendors and venues for events

THE ROLE: DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & PARTNERSHIPS

The Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

The Job: As Director of Business Development and Partnerships, you will play a leading role in identifying, prioritizing, communicating and executing new growth opportunities. You will be responsible for event sponsorships, retail partnerships and strategic partnerships with trade associations and non-profits. Because this is a new role on the Kayo Team, part of the job is to define the role and create a game-plan on how to execute it. You will work across our entire business, collaborating with senior leadership and event managers, to create and own our sales and business development strategy. Deepen relationships with existing clients, grow our sales pipeline and close on new business opportunities. You will combine your communication, listening, and negotiation skills to learn more about what our clients what, and to maintain authentic and intimate connections. Our clients include leading service providers to the finance and investment industry, such as law firms, accounting, insurance companies, consultants and asset managers. We also have partnerships with retail brands, non-profits, media groups and trade associations.

Compensation: Compensation includes a base salary plus a profit-share on events. Base salary will depend on years of experience, and your existing relationships and industry knowledge.

  • 7-10+ years relevant work experience in sales, relationship management and/or business development
  • Demonstrated sales success due to inquisitiveness, resilience and likability

  • Team player with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Coachable, fast and self-motivated learner
  • Prior knowledge of our industries is not necessary, however you must be willing and able to learn

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, negotiate and close sponsorship and partnership opportunities
  • Maintain CRM and sales pipeline
  • Travel to meet with clients and prospective clients regularly, including participating in all Kayo summits
  • Educate prospects on Kayo: who we are, our capabilities
  • Manage all phases of the sales lifecycle across a variety of sales scenarios (new prospects, re-activations, growth within existing clients)
  • Ensure that we deliver on our promises to clients

THE ROLE: FALL INTERNSHIP

The Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

The Impact:  No one should walk alone on their path to success.  In many top industries, women often find themselves the “only woman in the room”.   Networking becomes harder, and women often feel like outsiders.  We organize networking summits and retreats that make networking easy and fun for everyone – especially women.  We help women connect with leaders, advance themselves and champion their peers.  Women who are part of the Kayo network can be confident that they belong.

The Job:  Our Fall Intern will support one of our Event Directors on all of their activities, including event execution, marketing, business development, community engagement and industry research.

What We Want for You:  You are part of the next generation of business leaders, and we’re excited to get to know you.  We can help you develop a tool set to serve you on your path to success.  Skills you will learn at Kayo include project management, marketing, design, basic finance concepts, teamwork, communication and leadership.  Additionally, you will gain foundational industry knowledge on one of our core industries.  Each intern reports to one of our Directors, and will over the course of eight weeks be working primarily on one of our key industries (Power, Energy, Real Estate, Private Equity, etc).

Details:

  • 8-10 week commitment; typically, 8-12 hours per week
  • Compensation: Hourly with an opportunity for increase based on performance
  • Location: Charlottesville, VA
